There is a small motor/pump near front left tire that runs for

a short period to handle vapors from the fuel system (which are not

allowed to escape to the atmosphere). The motor can make a whine

sound. It should not run for very long, though.

Above applies to cars sold in U.S. -- other areas may have

different emission controls.
