Ken, I did as you recommended and hooked the lift to the two lifing ring that are original equipment on every 850. It worked beautifully and neither ring bent, but I did use an engine leveler between the hoist and the engine(Performance Plus tool). It allows you to tilt the engine in one plane and made it relatively easy. It took about 30 minutes by slowly jacking up the hoist and checking the engine for anything binding with each pump of the jack{hoist). It is a very tight fit and the right hand side of the engine has to be somewhat higher than the left and that's where the engine leveler came in very handy. Also the engine leveler allows you to lift more directly straight up from each of the rings therefore putting less side pressure on them and less of a chance of bending them. I used an engine hoist from
schucks which worked great however later I saw one at a local hardware store made be Performance PLUS that was a very similar design but appeared to be much beefier in materials for only slightly more money. Well now onto attempting to install the new(used) engine from Erie Vo Vo. Thanks again for your help.
