01 s60 won't start S60

mechanic had alternator rebuilt after a series of mysterious won't start happenings. Went to pick it up and turned over but would not start. Put slow charge on it. Would not even turn over. Tried to check codes - did not pull any - but chose to erase them anyway. At that point it turns over again but won't start.

Is there a way to do a whole reset of electrical without the VADIS system? Any other ideas?
