Re: s70 t5 upgrading engine

I think 300HP is doable but the automatic transmission would

be at its limit at that point. Not sure about a manual

transmission (if he has one). An exhaust and chip with a

good downpipe setup should net 280 HP. The last 20 horsepower

gets pretty expensive.

I would not rebore unless you could find pistons that are as

good as the Volvo ones for this engine. Even then, I would not.

For one thing, the turbo engine displaces 2.3L vs 2.4 for the

non-turbo to give it thicker cylinder walls to handle the heat

the turbo engine generates. So, nix that idea and trust that

the Volvo engineers kept the cylinder walls extra thick for a

good reason.

www.tme.com has good info on this topic. They discuss max

power for various models, etc. They also supply ECU upgrades

(one of several that do). IPD hjas the ECU upgrade TME

produces on sale for $855 (www.ipdusa.com). There are others

that are cheaper, though. (IPD has a very good reputation).

eastern aerospace does NOT enjoy a very good reputation with the

people that frequent this board. Their horsepower claims should

be ignored or at least viewed very carefully.
