Sorry, but you believed wrong. We own two 1998 S70s and both had the following issues: bubbling door panels; burned out headlight, directional and interior bulbs; door lock assembly failures; one had warped rotors on the rear; and the other had a dead battery and some issues with minor body trim. All were fixed under warranty so it wasn't too bad.
Compare that to our 1991 Maxima (not even a Camry or an Accord!) which we bought new over 10 years ago and only 2 years ago had it started to show signs of aging: new alternator, new ball joints, and a part (front pipe) of the exhaust. Original rotors, headlight and tail light bulbs and is on its 2nd battery. Not a lot of squeaks and rattles either. We were thinking of selling it at one point but decided to keep it.
Don't get me wrong, we love the shape of our S70s. So far all the issues have been resolved and so far no issues lately. I know that our Volvos are safer and if it proves trouble free in the long run we will keep it for a while.

P.S. - With all due respect, Yannis, you probably don't worry too much if something breaks down in your car since your place of employ will take care of any issues. Also, you most likely get discounts on parts and labor since you work at a dealership. This is completely different from us 'normal' car owners.
P.S.2 - We have no plans on buying a new car but we have looked at the new 3.2TL Type-S and we liked it.
