The flame trap is very easy to get to on a Volvo 850. You need to loosen 3 clamps and disconnect 3 plastic hoses. Volvospeed Bay 13 has an instruction on this job. The part cost some $2 and takes 15 min to replace. The O-ring must be replaced as well.
I recently replaced mine, at 90K it was all black, but the holes were not clogged.
Interestingly enough, when I was ordering my Cd-changer from the former Nils Sefeldt Volvo, I also asked about the O-ring. The guy told me that they usually remove the flame trap altogether. Can anyone comment on this?
And why there is so much oil around the flame trap?
