Help: I've messed up a timing belt change 850

I always wondered what would happen if I did what you did. In THEORY, you could just make a chalk mark in the cams and crank pulley and change the belt. No need to "align" anything.
The clincher being that if something goes amiss, there is no way to align things after the belt comes off without taking the valve cover off and that is a lot more work.
