hey,
i just bought an 02 v70 with a 5-speed manual transmission with 80K miles (how could i pass it up?). still have a short warranty on it and trying to get this problem taken care of while under warranty.
a couple hundred miles in to driving it, the car developed a whirring sound, like something rotating that goes up in pitch the faster i go. it is directly related to road speed, not engine speed (i.e. in neutral, the pitch stays the same at the same speed, only changes as car slows down, and it's not there if i'm not moving and revving engine.
i had the tranny fluid changed, but it didn't help. any ideas what it might be?
maybe this is related: just before i bought the car the dealership replaced the clutch throw out bearing... my instincts say the problem is on one side or the other of the tranny, but i know absolutely nothing about front-wheel drive cars (my other car is an 81 245).
thanks in advance,
tim
