Ifinally changed my evaporator 850

How does the technician know it is the evaporator? Lack of another evident leak or a test (for instance with dye)? Some leaks are slow and hard to detect. When my evaporator failed there was dye in the plenum box which could be seen by removing the heater fan motor and resistor.
