puzzled and frustrated with the difficuty in shifting a 2006 S60 2.5T into gear from the park position S60

Dear Klaus,

The 2006 S60 2.5T has no shift-lock button, like our 1995 850 turbo sedan has. I have to physically open the cap around the shifter (an 8 inches by 4 inches cap), reach inside a white lever (about 3/4 inch by 4 inches by 1/4 inch), move it up and down and then it seems to work. I have been doing it for more than one week now and it gets to be very frustrating.

A closer look/investigation of the inside of the shifter today revealed that the white lever mentioned above does go down when the brake is applied. However, the shifter does not allow the car to get into gear only with that move; an up and down move of that white lever inside seems to help in a way that I could not figure out with my eyes. Any other ideas are always welcome.

Thanks a lot. Chris
