The rattle in my new 2.5T that surfaced after purchase (metallic vibration when closing the door, accelerating from a stop) had me worried. It sounded like something in the dash, and I was very worried over exactly how hard it would be to troubleshoot.
I was coming home from my initial inspection today, driving over a long gravel road. The vibration was continuous and really evident. I bent my head forward to try to locate it. It sounded like it was coming from above, not below. I looked up and saw the previous owner's cell phone antenna that I knew was stuck to the windshield at the top left corner. I tapped the plastic body, and sure enough, the rattle got louder.
I got home, shut the car off, and hit that thing. A very loud TWANG TWANG TWANG. I pried it off and open, and saw the 3'4" long spring antenna connected to the circuit board. I thought "they must have thought of this," and then noticed the whole circuit board was loose within the case. Thus the entire innerds were vibrating, including the spring.
I know most people will never confront this, but perhaps this tidbit will help someone out. I was extremely relieved and feel better about the car now.
