Your car has an onboard diagnostic center which would give you codes if the crank pos sensor is bad, and codes for most everything else. The only time codes are not generated is if you are not getting gas.
Your mechanic should know that.
Also try unplugging the AMM and see if it starts.
There are many variables, too many to list here.
