Greetings, I posted this on the All models forum also hoping to hear from those that have other model Volvo's as well (hope that's not in bad form). A good friend of mine told me his mother might be looking to sell her 1999 S70 Volvo. It's apparently cherry clean with about 60K. I haven't seen it yet (nor have I taken particular notice of any S70s). Only thing he knew of was a small dent in the back and that the cloth covering on the inside front windshield pillars was starting to come off. He's not sure if it's a turbo or not or if it's 2 or AWD (he lives away from her, she's in her 70s). He thinks she wants about 3500-4000 for it.
Anyway, I just wanted to hear some experienced opinions about this model/year and any particular pitfalls, weaknesses, quirks, notorious problems, periodic mechanical service "musts", and good points as well. I don't particularly care for front wheel drive as it makes getting to some areas of the motor, steering and suspension more complicated, CV boots are a PIA, and photos I've just seen of the engine well show virtually no room to even stick a hand in. Is the timing belt hard to access on the sidemount 5 Cyl's? Thanks for any input!
