Remote locking problems 850 1997

I recently acquired a 1997 850T5 Wagon. It came with a remote key fob but the battery was dead. I finally got the battery replaced and programmed the remote as per the instructions. Now, however, both buttons will lock all of the doors and neither will unlock them. What's going on? Help.
