I have a 1998 S70 T5 with 160K miles. At start-up there is a screeching noise from the engine area that stops after about 1-2 minutes. The noise is not RPM sensative. Usually gone for until next cold start up.
The Volvo dealer says it is an air pump that does some pre warm up air movement in the exhaust? system...maybe pollution related? He says it will get worse and soon will need replacement...and that the check engine light should come on soon also. Like all issues...it will cost "about $1000".
Any verification of this issue...an/or experience with the fix? Is it an easy or hard fix?...I am not REAL mechanical but can do some things with good instructions. Last visit here I found the ABS repair guy and successfully did that "$1000" repair for I think about $200.
ANy input would be appreciated...Tom R
P.S. I have also posted on the V 70 thread...TMR
