As Calvin suggests, there has to be a male connector there somewhere. If the battery is tee total, claw hammer dead, it would not sustain the engine's ignition if the cables were removed immediately. May try charging a few hours and see if it will run. Then you can check for alternator output. A common cause of dead batteries in the 850 is the glove box light. Over a week, it would sure kill a battery.
