I have the same situation, with cracked or broken cases and the "innards" working fine. I inquired about just purchasing the cases and at least one of the online dealers said they only carry the complete unit. I just ordered a new fob on e-Bay, which has not arrived yet. I plan on putting my original innards in the new fob which should eliminate a trip to the dealer for reprogramming. The insides are just like a TV remote control, just a small circuit board with push buttons that are contacted by the external buttons on the case. If this works, it will have cost me $40.00 to replace the "case." I'll update everyone, hopefully within a few days, when the new key fob arrives and I test it out.
