Since you have a 95 you can use the jumper/flasher diagnostic as described above.
There are many sources that list the codes' text description.

I like the Volvo Pocket Data Book though. It's about $20 and you should be able to order one from Volvo or a dealer. It has a lot of info, torques, firing order, all sorts of good stuff, not just for 850s, too.
