Both my front axles are blown. I can still drive, but it makes me a bit nervous. It shimmies a bit, but sooner or later I am going to have to replace them.

Questions! Can I just replace the two half axles? How much would this job cost? Could I save money by ordering the parts myself wholesale? The car is only worth about 4000 dollars, so spending 50% or more of that seems excessive, although once it's done my car will have no known problems (I already fixed everything else!) One mechanic quoted me 1200 for ONE axle replacement.
