The design on this hinge was bound to break the plastic, and it was broken before I bought the car. Today I had to replace the bulb on the shifter so the console was already out. Cleaned it up, super glued the broken piece into position and removed the lid from the hinge. On the top of the lip I fashioned a piece of aluminum that allowed the hinge to just pass over but limited its back swing. Two screws hold it in place, one on each side of the plastic, but through the metal. Reassembled and it works perfectlly. It can not be seen with the lid closed and even open, it is barely visable.

Much less expensive that the $250 or so for a new console part!
