To reset the "Service" light you'll need the Draper tool.
Here's one on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Volvo-Draper-Service-Light-Reset-Tool-Brand-NEW_W0QQitemZ300022878496QQihZ020QQcategoryZ10432QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
To read the OBDII codes I'd recommend the Equus 3110.

The Volvo ECU is kind of finicky about talking to any of the common laptop scanner programs out there, and I think you'd be disappointed. Its not like plugging into a Ford or Chevy, where they are more than happy to spill their guts and show you everything. It takes something like the dealer's Volvo Scantool or a Tech2 scanner, big bucks ($4000+?)
