Currently having the same issue with my 96 850 non-turbo (135,000 miles). Idle is rough with occasional black smoke - very intermittent. Dealer replaced the FPR last week and the problem did clear up somewhat but not completely. If the FPR is not functioning properly, the computer tries to compensate the fuel/air mixture by adding fuel. Idle is affected as the car is too rich, but the engine can burn the excess fuel when you accelerate. Found that the rear O2 sensor is really dirty due to running rich, so I am replacing both later this week. Hopefully that will clear the idle up and I will get better mileage.
Please let me know if you find a solution cause the replacing of parts is getting expensive. Not to mention how this is making my dealer feel - they can't find anything wrong with the car, but they see the same symptoms.
