Engine number is on the side of the timing belt cover, on a white piece of paper (yeah, paper) that's stuck to it. There's a bar code on it too. If the paper sticker is missing, it's easy to tell which timing belt and tensioner you need. If you have a rotor under and to the side of the throttle body (wires to spark plugs) then you have the automatic or hydraulic type so you'll need that type of tensioner and belt. If you don't have a rotor, but instead, a ignition pack, then you have to CVVT or Constant Variable Valve Timing and will need the newer type of Timing belt and tensioner. There were changes in mid '94 on these as well as another change in the later part of the '98's C/S/V/XC70 runs.
