replace bulbs in shifter 850 1995

Does anyone recommend changing the bulb (or bulbs) in the auto trans console that light the gear selection in a 95 850? I can tell by feel what gear I am in but my wife is not as familiar with my car and cannot see what gear it is in at night. I would imagine some sort of way to pull the shifter cover off and gain access to the bulb (s). If not a DIY project, how bad will the dealer get me for this.
