SOLUTION!!! OK gang, here's the dirt. I installed a new crankshaft position sensor last night for $40. I was under the impression that it would then start right away... WRONG. Of course, it exhibited the same cranking sounds. It then occurred to me that I had flooded the engine by trying to crank it twice a day for the past five days. So, my new problem was not a bad sensor, it was now a flooded engine. I depressed the gas pedal fully (that allows much more air into the firing chamber) and cranked away for about twenty-seconds maximum each time (any longer can burn/melt the starter). The car then finally turned over. Of course the stench of fuel coming out of the tailpipe REALLY stunk. After ten-minutes of idling, it smelt fine and ran fine. I think I need a new engine temperature sensor. I have a DTC saying it's malfunctioning. Thanks for all who helped.
