Dash lights flash at dusk 850 1995

I was going to not post a message about this, but I saw another recent thread with a very similar title (different symptom) and I can't resist.

On several occasions recently I have observed that after starting my car (at dusk) about 1-2 minutes into driving the dash illumination lights will flash on then off 2-3 times. This occurs with the headlight switch in the "off" position (running lights enabled and "on").

I checked the owner's manual but didn't find a description of what I am guessing is a Volvo safety feature (turn your lights on, stupid). Can anyone verify my guess, or tell me I have a loose connection somewhere (in the car!!)? I'm impressed they did this, if it is a "feature". Thanks! Don 854T '95
