s70 wind noise S70

My 1998 S70 has a small but annoying problem: intermittent wind noise (sounds like a Geiger counter) from the front windows. Happens more often in cold weather, and seems to abate if I temporarily fold in the side mirror (can't drive that way all the time, though). A body shop tightened the door latch and silicon-lubed the window track, but said there was no way to adjust the window, which doesn't seem to stop short of closing completely anyway--makes a strong thump at the top. Any suggestions? Are any of those wind deflectors worth trying, or will they just make it worse? I don't want to spend a lot on this, since the car drives fine. I have been "fixing" it with a foam earplug for long winter drives, but maybe there's a better way....
