transmission problem on '01 revisited V70-XC70

Transmission service message:
Looks like the transmission problem I have has to do with a defective "shift sensor" where the transmission dont know really in what gear it is. (I will get the correct part name when I get there) The guy mentionned that I must use the manual shift often, which he is not wrong but really, I must use it 20% of the time...bizarre how he seems to know about it and... Is it really weak to this point?...
Anti-pollution maintenance required:
The rubber filler pipe going from the filler cap to the gas tanks has a hole in it, due to a "wire" rubbing agains it. Extender warranty doesnt want to cover it since they say that it is not a "part failure" on its own. I questionned their craftmanship. Cant blame the dealer. They did what they could to get it under warranty but Volvo wont budge (600$ estimate for a tube of rubber with 5 hours of labor...). Probably because of the fact that I came in a week before with the air conditionning compressor and ETM change (estimate 2500$ labour include) under warranty.
Again, the dealership seem to have seen this problem often enough. They even suggested epoxy which they tried before with success. That would have been exacly what I would try first, beats dropping the tank.
So you might want to check your filler tube for wire rubbing agains it on the V70. Pressure in the tank will be disturbed and the engine light will come on.
