Fuel Gauge Sender Problem?? V70-XC70 1999

99 V70 XC 112K

I only recently purchased this vehicle and my wifr and have onoy driven it about 1000 miles. However, she has run out of gas twice now. Although the fule gauge was indicating near or very near empty during both instances, low fuel light never came on and the trip computer indicated about 35 miles to empty both times. The low fuel light does come on when the key is in the ACC positon.

The manual states that the light should come with 1.8 gallons remaining in the tank and with MPGs we've been averaging, 35 miles to empty would be about right for 1.8 gallons.

Might the sender be bad? If so, where is and how difficult to swap?
