ECC INTERIOR CABIN TEMP SENSOR - Faulty S70 1998

Blinking lights on Electronic Climate buttons - found 'fluff' inside cabin temperature sensor which I removed. Small fan turns a few degrees when car started but won't continue to rotate. Removed from car as per Haynes manual (without having to rotate it - Haynes manual is wrong there). Checked visually and can't see anything which may prevent the fan from rotating. Removed rear plastic base from the sensor to reveal surface mount chips etc. My Haynes manual doesn't even show this sensor on the wiring diagram for the Climate control. There are 4 pins on the unit. Question - does anybody have any information on the pin assignments? Or has anyone else tried to fix the sensor? New sensor is US$75. Bit reluctant to spend that sort of money in case the problem is not the sensor but the ECC module itself. Have ordered an OBD interface which has not yet turned up so I don't have any codes to help in the diagnoses yet.

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions,

Cheers, Phil
