What grade gas for 2001 V70 T5? V70-XC70

Traded the wife's 850 GLT for a '01 V70 T5 last night and the salesman said that the new turbos only needed 87 octane. This was confirmed by the owners manual so I guess I have answered my question but I am curious to hear what you guys have to say. I have always been told to use premium with turbos, like we did for the 850 GLT, but I guess they changed something with the ECU?

Is there any benefit to running premium over regular when all that is required is regular?
