re: Code Question 1996

I've got a general question about DTC codes and my 1996 850 Turbo.

I'm considering buying an OBD II code reader (Innova 3100). Recently my AC light was flashing and the dealer told me it is an indicator that there is a heater/AC code in the computer. When the dealer read the code it was a fault with the cabin temperature sensor fan.
My question is, will such codes be read by an OBD II reader, or do you need Volvo's diagnostic equipment to read such non "engine management" codes?

ALso, what is the difference between the OBD II codes and Volvo's 3 digit codes.

Thanks for the help
Amnesia
