shifting problems! 850 1994

My car has been having trouble getting out of fisrt gear when i start to drive. but that is only when its in drive. if i position it in a lower gear(3,L) it will shift fine. up until the gear that it is positioned in. and i see that after 15 minutes or so if i put it back into drive(D) it will drop in drive and shift perfectly . the problem only occures when if start the car after it has been sitting for a couple hours or so i also find that if i shake the shifter while i am driving in (d) it will drop into gear at around 4000 rpm's.... if anyone has any imput on this subject i would be happy to hear about it
