Advice on buying a 98 V70 or a 98 V-90 V70-XC70

I own both. We have a 2000 V70 AWD, a 92 960 wagon and a 97 S90. Check out the Brickboard's RWD forum for the 900 and S90/V90 FAQ's and archives. The RWD for 900's is quite active and you will find distinct opinions about both sides of the issues. The 960 RWD series is a very comfortable road car. If you or your family has a tendancy to speed there may be a problem. This car will go all day long at 80mph with 24 to 25 mpg. It does require more maintenance than previous Volvo's. It may also require that you take the vehicle to a qualified mechanic or the dealer for repairs you might otherwise be able to have done by yourself on other vehicles. Knowing when the timing belt has been changed is an absolute must on the 960's. The 98's have a 70K interval but if the car has low mileage you may run into a 5 or 6 yr change interval before you reach the mileage. Pose your question on the RWD forum and you should get anywhere from 5 to 15 responses. I am sure the search will be educational. I am happy to have my youngest daughter driving the 960 wagon. She doesn't have a lead foot and she probably needs the most protection. If something happened to the 92 wagon, I am sure I would look for a good used V90.
