Air Pump - Part 2 !!! V70-XC70 1998

Previous Post (a few back):

My Air Pump (blower motor) just failed. I observed "check engine" light. Went to local auto parts store & was able to get a free code read (P0410 - 2ndary air injection system fault).

I found instructions at Bay13 to remove the air pump. It was shorted. I connected supply exhaust hoses to the air pump together for the short-term, until I get replacement. My gas mileage has dropped from 22-23 (mostly stop & go) to ~18mpg (sucks!!), but performance is UP (good!).

*****

NEW INFO: >>> When I took pump out, there ws NO water in it! I did check the fuse and relay, both were fine. After taking the pump out (Thanksgiving morning), the "Check Engine" light cleared.

Tuesday after work: about 10 minutes into drive home, the "Check Engine" light comes on. I stop at AutoZone (they have Wiper blades and Mobil-1 for Volvos anyway) and their code reader says same P0410 - Secondary Air Injection System Fault. I guess I need to troubleshoot the components again (minus the removed air pump)?!?!?!?

Any thoughts??

Thanks,

Paul
