It depends on your driving style. If you drive hard, much sooner than that. Volvo recommends the change after such a high amoundat of mileage to make the price of maintence appearing lower in things such as cosumer reports.

If you are using copper OEM plugs, you will probably need to change them every 30k. It's easy to pull the out and check them. OEM plugs arn't very expensive. There are other plugs that may last longer with the same performance, but if I mention them too much the OEM crowd might start in =)

BTW, don't use platnium plugs in a turbo.
