Has Someone actuall reset the Check Engine Light on their own? V70-XC70 1998

I just bought a 1998 v70 AWD wagon. I am still not sure if it was the right thing to do. VOLVO's are not cheap as you all know. I have a 940 turbo and I love it. I wanted some more room for my wife and kids and so I bought the wagon. I am a do-it-yourself guy. Well, I have driven the car for 3K and now I have the Check engine light on. The car only has 53k on it. I have read several of the messages but I was unable to now exactly what code reader to buy and what tool to buy to reset the light. I know these things can be expensive. Someone that has there own and has reset their own light has to be out there.

Thanks,

KGP
