Rear end clunking due to rear seats? 850 1996

I have been trying to source the sound of a hollow, popping sound coming from the somewhere in the rear of my car. Of course it might be somewhere in the suspension, but I was curious if anyone has noticed if the rear seats might be causing this, that there is too much play in their ability to move around, even in the locked postion. I *thought* I had read something about this at one time in the archives, but could not find anything.

I climbed into the trunk with my wife driving down our bumpy driveway, and could not hear the sound then. So I am wondering if the seats could be a culprit. Experience with that, anyone?
