Is 223 on A1 confirmation that the PNP is bad? 850 1994

That code is set in the transmission because the trans uses throttle position to determine system pressures and shift points. The trans gets the information from the engine computer. The Throttle Position Sensor TPS, is suppose to have a voltage from .5 to 4.2 volts, if the signal drops below .1 volts for 10 seconds then that code gets set. You could have a bad connection on the TPS or a bad TPS sensor. Your not starting unless you jiggle the shifter is normally caused by the PNP switch not registering that it is in Park or Neutral, normally caused by worn out contacts/springs inside the PNP switch. Sometimes ratcheting the shifter back and forth can help to clean up the contacts for a while, but the switch will have to be replaced in time. (it's worn out) and cold weather really brings out the failures.
