2015 XC70 Glove box plug V70-XC70 2015

My mechanic looked for the manual in the glove box and must have hit the little box on the left side that has a green plug going into the back of it. He broke off a small black piece of plastic that seemed to be plugged into the front of that box. Anyone know what this is and am I okay to do nothing? Seemed like everything was working fine on my way home. The piece is about 1" x 3/4" x 3/8" thick at the place where it broke off. On one side it says "UP". Any clue?
He was looking for where to find the cabin air filter so he could replace it, but no luck. Thanks!
