bypassing the heater core 850

Howdy all,
I have a '97 Volvo 850 that I'm getting ready to send to the scrap yard soon. One of items I'd like to remove for transferring to my new '97 Volvo 850 is the Heater core, since it's only about two years old.
I plan on keeping the old car drivable so I can still drop it off at the scrap yard.
Can I just remove the heater hoses from the firewall and connect them together with a short piece of Hose & 2 clamps ?
Seems simple enough.
Then I can remove the fairly new heater core from the car to use as a replacement for the new car's leaky core.

Thanks
