Repairing Key Fobs (including 2004 models)

Own (2) 2004 models with key fobs needing repair. I've been looking at the options on ebay and various posts on repairing. I'm interested to see if anyone in our collective has experience with this.

I have broken 'switchblades' (probably busted the tab on the release buttons).

If you made a repair I have questions:

1) There are used fobs and knock-offs and a huge variation in price. Which works better and are the knock-offs acceptable.
2) Did you ever remove a transponder and was it difficult.
3) Is there an easy way to open the key portion and what type of adhesive did you use to put it back together.
