Hello All,
This might be a “duh” question, but I’ll risk my ego. I have had a 1999 XC since 1999 when I purchased it used. Unlike my 1996 850 wagon, it did not come equipped with a cigarette lighter. In contrast, ,y 1996 850 GLT wagon has a green colored plastic bezel around the plug opening that “lights up” at night when your turn on the headlights. Instead, my ‘99XC came with a plastic plug/cover that says “12 Volt”. I remember a car salesman told me the car did not come equipped with a cigarette lighter, but he would be happy to sell me one from the parts department (I declined because I’m a non-smoker). I guess Volvo was trying to encourage a healthier lifestyle, or maybe it was a recognition that customers wanted to used this outlet to power handheld accessories.
I noticed recently that this opening for this outlet on my ’99 XC is not illuminated at night (like my 850) when I turn the headlights on. It appears this outlet was never supposed to be illuminated at night. Can anyone confirm for me that I am right, that this outlet is not designed to be illuminated at night? Thanks to all who respond.
Hugh
