When my carpets got soaked due to a failed heater core, I got up all the water I could with the vac and absorbent towels. Still, I could hear the "squish" when I depressed the carpet.

To evaporate the remaining moisture as quickly as possible, I positioned my leaf blower to blow across on the still-damp area and let her run. The carpet dried out much faster than just letting it evaporate naturally.
