S80 non responsive shifter episode S80 2005

This S80 has given me absolutely no problems since I purchased it new. Yesterday, something odd happened.

Wife drove the car back from work, about 15 miles on the highway. She pulled into a parking spot at a store. She goes to put the car in Park and the shifter won't move past the Neutral position. She runs the shifter down to Low and back up to N several times, and finally it will go into Reverse. Then she backs the car up a few feet, puts it back in D and pulls into the space again. She moves the shifter into Park without issue. When returning to the car, it starts, runs, and shifts normally during her drive back to the house.

Any thoughts on what that was all about?
