Fan doesn't run with wonky climate control module being replaced S40-V40 2000

Got a replacement resistor block and tried putting it in -- they must use nanobots to work on this in the garage!!!!! Looks to be a trip to the local non-dealer Volvo garage ($$$) unless the metal bar behind the glove box area can be removed.

I plugged the new resistor in and started the car and turned every bit of noise off. Moving the fan speed control knob, I could hear a click from the blower area when I moved to the next number and backwards. Plugging the old resistor in, I could hear only clicks for the 4 and 5 positions.

Can't find a schematic of the pars to figure out what the reistor connects to. I still have to check the under-hood fuses but the under-dashboard one is OK (lost the #&$#&$ holder and nowhere to be seen).
