Stuck Antenna 850 1997

OK, read the recent thread on replacing the antenna mast, I know I need to do this, but have other more important issues to deal with first.

I thought I could simply pull the mast up to get better reception by turning radio on to put mast in raised position, diconnecting power at mast and pulling up. Mast was stuck like 2 or 3 inches above nut. I was able to pull up the thickest section, but none of the thinner sections of the mast will budge. This worked on my 93 940.

Just get a pair of pliers under the button at the tip and tap upward? Don't want to kill the motor or break anything. Thanks as always for any help.

Mike
