My New 850 - A Couple of Questions 850 1997

Klaus,

Thanks for input. Car is solid and never been hit, had reasonable maintenance, but I prefer full service records; however at this price there are some compromises.

Timing belt was bugging me, so before work I looked again and found a sticker on the TB cover. It was done at ~65 kmiles, but unfortunately in '02 or '03 (cant' recall at the moment). I think 8 yrs is about the limit, plus I'm sitting at 136 kmiles. So, it's due for its 3rd belt, thinking I do the tensioner if it does not look like OEM, and the rollers. If pump looks like OEM, I leave it alone (assumes no leaks/play).

I've done lots of TB's and this looks easier than my 1.8 turbo Golf. Write ups say you don't have to remove crank damper, but seems like with an impact gun you could take it off or at least pull it out a bit to get access (torquing nut back up could be a pain though). I've been marking the belt and transferring to new belt for my last few, and it seems like damper will prevent me from doing this. Any thoughts here?

Mike
