Replacing ATF 850 1995

I need a reminder. Several years ago I replaced the ATF in the 855T by disconnecting one of the hoses at the ATF cooler in the radiator, then connecting a vinyl tube to the hose and running the engine to pump it out into a bucket.

I don't recall the details of the procedure. Which hose, upper or lower? I remember running the engine until bubbles appeared in the hose then turning it off and topping up the ATF level and repeating. This mixes the new with the old until it pumps clean fluid. Took about a case and a half to finish.

Can someone fill in the blanks for me?

Not to start a dino vs. synth thread here but the car has 155,000 miles on it, and I'm returning to Memphis, a very hot climate. I might tow a small trailer too. Last time I changed fluid I recall I used a Valvoline petroleum product. Worked fine. Any recommendation?

Thanks,

Erwin
