Happy new owner...rock in the shoe. 850

Hi all.

I just picked up a gorgeous ’94 855t with 130K pampered miles (so I thought,) on it. I did the “pre-sale” check up with a Volvo garage and I was very comfortable with the purchase.

Since last weekend, when we bought it, I have put on about 400 miles on it. Last night on the way back from the work, coolant level light came on. Reserve tank level decreased from “max” to “min” in the 400 miles. I see no visible sign of leak, although I smelled a bit of coolant from the back of the motor around the turbo last night. Since this is a new car for me, I don’t have a good feel of if the vehicle running abnormally or noticing that anything could be wrong.

Of course, I am freaked out. Without knowing much about this model (let alone about this motor with turbine-thing on its side…,) I don’t have much idea of where to start. Engine oil (which was changed about 500 miles ago) does not seem contaminated, and compressions were all good according to the shop which did the pre-sale check. Trans fluid seem a bit cloudy and I would not know how to confirm if it contains the coolant. The temp gage never even flickered from the 3 o'clock position.

With this limited information, could any of you experts out there give me suggestions of what to look or what could be the culprit?

Thank you as always.

Toshi
